About

My Opulent Place is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization focused on helping to end and prevent homelessness for Veterans living in the Metro Atlanta area. Managed by a Board of Directors and founded by Diana Johnson in 2015, My Opulent Place (MOP) works as a resource to achieve safe transitional housing for homeless Veterans and connect them with health and wellness community services to pursue economic self-sufficiency. MOP is excited to be a part of the process to prevent and end homelessness for our Veterans for years to come.

My Opulent Place is among the great organizations in the Metro Atlanta area that work diligently for our homeless Veterans. We value the partnership opportunities, which allow us to leverage our trainers and resources to ensure that homeless Veterans are connected to vital resources.

Programs that My Opulent Place offers to the community of homeless Veterans include resources for transitional housing, health and wellness programming, VA support services, job readiness and educational advancement. These programs will help to get homeless Veterans back on their feet and on a path towards self-sufficiency. Fundraising initiatives support the needs of the organization’s patrons, support programming and operational needs.

Who We Are

An Organization dedicated to Serving our Homeless Veterans

My Opulent Place

The name MY OPULENT PLACE came to Diana, Our Founder one day as an inspiration. In 2011, her eldest brother who is a Viet Nam Veteran was homeless. He relocated to Atlanta to live with her. He was taking anti-seizure medication and suffering from a tumor. He chose not to have it removed because there was high probability that he would be paralyzed or not live through this surgery.

Diana became his advocate by helping him get his Veterans benefits. She spoke with the VA Homeless Coordinators and learned about Veteran’s CRRC (Veteran’s Community Resource and Referral Center). She networked with community service organizations focused on preventing and ending homelessness for Veterans. These collaborations gave many Veterans access to more resources and empower them to become self-sufficient.

Diana has a daily Spiritual practice. Each day as she meditated, she got the urge to learn more about the homelessness in metro Atlanta. This ultimately led her to prepare 40 bag lunches per day. She drove around the city to remote areas, abandoned storefronts and houses to distribute the sandwiches and offer a word of encouragement. In doing this, she would ask the individuals if they were a Veteran; intuitively she knew they were by the way they responded. Her love, desire and hope to help these service men and women grew each time she prepared lunch for them.

Sitting in class while studying to become a Religious Science Licensed Practitioner, the words My Opulent Place came to her and she had no idea what it meant. Throughout the night, she kept thinking of My Opulent Place until she began to think of the homeless Veterans and how they deserve to live in opulence, empowerment, and be honored for their service to our country. This is our mission.

Our Founder

Diana Johnson has a personal passion for serving those who have served our country most, the Veterans. Her brother is a Veteran and was experiencing challenges with receiving his medical benefits. After tireless and unsuccessful attempts for her brother to be seen by a doctor, Diana became engaged in the process. She witnessed with her own eyes the many Veterans who were not only experiencing challenges with receiving their benefits, but who were also living without housing. This pushed Diana to become an advocate for homeless Veterans.

While Diana’s career path is in aero engineering with a leading global aerospace, defense, security and advanced technology company, Ms. Johnson also has ventured out to obtain experience that will further her expertise in serving the Veterans, including:

  • Goodwill Thrift Store Business Trainings
  • Reiki therapeutic energy certification
  • Licensed religious science practitioner
  • Frequent volunteer with feeding homeless around Metro Atlanta
  • Grady Memorial Hospital Hospice Volunteer

Mission & Vision

The mission of My Opulent Place is to provide resources to achieve safe transitional housing for homeless Veterans and assist with connecting them to health and wellness community services to pursue economic self-sufficiency.

The organization’s vision is to positively impact the homeless population of Metro Atlanta by serving homeless Veterans and providing resources to re-engage them into civilian lifestyles among their community. As the reach of My Opulent Place grows, the number of homeless Veterans in the Metro Atlanta community will decrease. The number of previously homeless Veterans in a position to help guide any remaining homeless Veterans will increase. Thus, My Opulent Place will produce a continuous cycle of service and resources for homeless Veterans. This powerful impact will work towards the prevention of new homeless Veterans because of our solid support system.
